LET’S TAP DANCE
I am offering Tap Dance 1.5 this summer. During the school year, I teach adult tap dance for Madison School and Community Recreation (MSCR). There is a need for a class in between level 1 and level 2, and to be a review class for level 3. If you are interested in attending, you do not have to be an MSCR student. I’m happy to teach anyone who wants to learn. If you already know a little basic tap, but want to get better, we want you there!
Tap 1.5 will use the 4 weeks to break down more complex steps, give time and repetitions to get them in your muscle memory, increase your tempo and confidence with basic steps and, hopefully, the less basic steps too. We will not start from scratch, but I won’t throw you into the deep end of the pool yet either. Students should already be capable to performing shuffles, shufFLES, and flaps. We will work on accuracy and speed of those as well as time steps and other common combos.

WHY TAP 1.5?
My classes during the school year focus on choreography. Learning a routine is a great way to incorporate skills and musicality. However, it is also very useful to have time just to drill and work on individual moves. There is no shortcut to mastering tap dance steps. Repetition is key to building control and stamina. Ideally, this would be done at home, but most adults do not have the time or space (don’t ruin your floor!) to practice. So this class provides that space.
WHY NOT MSCR OVER THE SUMMER?
I decided not to teach for MSCR over the summer because we would be at Hoyt Elementary School. I’ve seen my students slip and fall on the tile floors. They also kill my joints. Basically, it’s just a bad facility for tap dancing. So I’m going rogue just for the summer. We’ll be back at MSCR in the fall.
